79th World Health Assemly Resolution
Side Event On Precision Medicine
Precision Medicine is transforming healthcare by tailoring prevention, diagnosis, and treatment to each person’s genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Powered by advances in genomics, artificial intelligence, data science, and digital health, it has the potential to improve outcomes, strengthen prevention and early detection, and enhance the effectiveness of health systems. However, access to these innovations remains unequal, with many developing countries facing barriers such as limited infrastructure, workforce gaps, weak data governance and regulation, and insufficient long-term financing—risking wider health inequities instead of supporting Universal Health Coverage (UHC). In response, Egypt is leading a World Health Assembly Resolution on Precision Medicine, supported by many Member States, calling for coordinated global action to ensure these advancements contribute to health equity and UHC. The Resolution urges countries to strengthen governance, regulation, ethical health data use, workforce skills, and access to technology, while integrating Precision Medicine into national and public health strategies. It also requests the WHO Director-General to develop a global strategy for international coordination, technical support, and capacity-building. In this context, Egypt is convening a high-level side event to drive global dialogue, policy alignment, and shared learning—turning Precision Medicine from scientific progress into sustainable and equitable health impact.
